Continuing to bum around in the area just south of the Eyjafjallajökull, after the eruption, but before the cleanup.

Some pictures from a drive near Eyjafjallajokull a few months ago -- just after it stopped booming, but before the area got cleaned up.

Here's another view of the
Esja, about 320 degrees around (the missing 40 is just a wall of rock).

Sfeerbeelden from the ski/snowboard/crosscountry/rastafari trip to Akureyri with CCP's Fun Division, mid-March. Back then the

Incredible video.
The biggest worry now is that the
Katla will go off. On top of that, the
Hekla is overdue too; it blows up every ten years, and the last time was in 2000.
...I just hope the wind doesn't turn :P
Update: found a video that tells us how to pronounce it.. and how not to :)
Update 20/04:
Insane photos of lighting and doom, and
even more here. Also a fantastic movie where you can see
the shockwaves in the cloud. Just wow.

If the sun was in the sky at
Thingvellir, and it was gone at
Gullfoss, where did we enjoy the sunset? Why, there's only one item left on the Golden Circle Tour:
Geysir of course! The ground was covered in a thick layer of ice, the hot water was producing steam and clouds like crazy, and reflecting and shining through all this was the wonderful orange sunset in some of the purest skies in the world. This was without a doubt one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, and I'm not sure I managed to convey just how amazing it was in these pictures. But without any further comment: enjoy nonetheless!

The thing's been at it for a while now, so we're getting some pics from people who know what they're doing.
Linky! Last weekend some guys went up there in jeans; I guess they forgot the part about
Iceland and
glaciers. Naturally they had to be rescued when the minus 28 C finally got to them. Ah, tourists :)
Update: just when it seemed the thing was starting to fizz out, a new rift opens and we're back in business.
Video 1,
video 2. The last eruption went on for about
two years so no need to rush :) Then again, it might stop tomorrow, just like that. Nobody knows!
Update 2:
heundreud meuteur deu leucht eun. Weeee!
Again,
revisiting a location from last fall. Perhaps not as spectacular as Gullfoss, as there wasn't really time to descend down to the actual lake (cursed be thee, guided tours), but still not bad. And yeah, more sunsets!

Well, it took a while, but finally off it went!
linky.... yes, yes, "that's what she said".
Update:
Some pics and a movie, thanks Kris :)
Update 2:
Fly by movie. Some CCP'ers are thinking about a helicopter fly-by.. but it's pretty expensive :p
Update 3:
crazy guy jumps on a snowmobile and gets within 200 meters, takes crazy pics. Thanks Snorri :)

Ok, time for the Winter Edition of the golden circle tour! You may remember the
Gullfoss waterfall in the fall. I revisited this spot on January 2nd, 2010, when the tour guide estimated it be "about minus 25". The suffering I endure for this blog! But the view was worth it...
