Botnsdalur

Here's a few pics from a hike in Botnsdalur, a valley that's typically not on the tourist check-list because it's not a big deal -- but it still makes for a nice little Sunday afternoon walk.

When you drive north from Reykjavik towards the West Fjords or Akureyri, you need to take a tunnel below Hvalfjordur. In the good old days (which is about 30 years ago I think) you had to add one hour to your journey because you had to go all the way around the fjord. For this hike, that's exactly what you do still; the trail starts at the furthest point, moving east.

Location of the hike.

And so without further comment, here's a couple of views from along the way.

Who would have thought, it's a mountain.

Two mountains and an abandoned farm.

That's right, a mountain.

Fun crossing. Note how, halfway through, you need to swap which side of the rope you're on.

Looking back... my car is somewhere down there.

Voila.
