Last week we had the shortest day of the year, like everywhere else in the Northern Hemisphere. With a sunrise at 11:22 and a sunset at 15:30, that's just over four hours of daylight on the 22nd of December, 2009. I thought it might be interesting to take my camera to work and take pictures throughout the day to show you what that looks like in reality...
Again just to remind you, it's best to click the pictures for a bigger version, and then continue browsing by clicking "Next" near the right edge of the image.
10:31 - One hour before sunrise, dawn breaks into the sky.
11:05 - Half an hour before sunrise.
11:31 - Sunrise! Just in time for lunch! The clouds can see the sun, and change to a wonderful color.
12:03 - The light reaches Esja, and it starts to feel like an early morning rise. Except it's noon.
13:09 - Somewhere in between sunrise and sunset, this is about as light as it gets today.
14:21 - Sunset is about to start.
15:01 - Half an hour before sunset, colors are shifting to the stuff photography is made for.
15:36 - Sunset. Err, just in time for afternoon coffee?
16:07 - Desperately clinging to the last bits of light bouncing off the atmosphere.
16:40 - That's it; hope you enjoyed your four hour day, 'cause it's night now.
And now you know what the view from our office's 4th floor looks like as well. Happy New Year from the land of darkness(tm)!
Eén voordeel, je zonnebrilglazen zullen nog nie te rap verslijten.
