Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland. It is located in the south-east of the island, covering more than 8% of the country.
Somebody asked me if the glaciers are here all year long, or if they melt in summer and come back. Hmm, well... at 8100 square km, Vatnajökull is the size of Vlaams Brabant, Oost Vlaanderen & West Vlaanderen
all combined.. so what do you think :)
Anyway, we're here for some snowmobile action! Hell yeah! For the chroniclers, this was on August 21st, 2011.
First we hitch a ride with a mode of transport appropriate for driving on this moonscape...
... and then switch to something appropriate for discovering the biggest chunk of ice in Europe. Not sure what this is doing here though. Maybe it got left behind in a sudden spout of global warming.
... aaaand we're off! And I'm driving! Woohoo!
... and with this, I am now officially, completely, totally out of pictures. The three of you that still read this blog can now go away, it's all bad jokes, youtube techno, and computer nerd stuff from here on forward. I'll let you know when I've actually left the house again (and could be arsed to take my camera with me).
Give yourself some credit.
Love the pictures!
Who is your little friend?:)
How did you like the snowmobiling?
Thanks :) That's my nephew :) It was bumpier and trickier than I expected, isn't snow supposed to be smooth and soft? It got me a little worried my passenger might fly off :) IT WAS ALSO VERY LOUD.
And what about the picture of the guy on the horse with the sunglasses ?????
